Rundown at 2:10-2:25.

 

Mechanics at 2nd base at 2:20 for College. When they tag the first runner should there be a safe sign or just verbal safe, and then a point and out call with the hand on the 2nd runner? Not arguing the call, just asking about the mechanics with the 2 men on base at one time with this play.s

 

But, after watching again, confused by the rule now.

 

Were they both tagged while on the bag at the same time?, or was lead runner tagged while on the base (safe, since it was his bag to begin with), and then he came off the bag as the tag was applied to trail runner on the bag? If he came off the bag after being tagged, would that make it OK again for the trail runner to be on the bag since they were not on the base at the same time, and therefor the trail runner would not be out?.  Confusing me (i.e.-not hard to do).

You cant tell for sure whether R2 was on the base or not when R1 was tagged but hes going to have to be CLEARLY off to not have R1 out.  If the plays / tags are so close together like that you really don't have time to make the first safe signal.  The mechanics were fine.  Follow up with a safe signal for R2 if he had stayed on the bag.
