2 Man Mechanics for Pinto and Mustang

Ok folks I need some advice. I am working a local All Star Tournament for our Local Pony League. And my first game on Saturday is a Pinto Game(U8). And then I have mostly all Mustang(U10) games the rest of the weekend. Both Pinto and Mustang are 60ft bases. So here is my question. When on the bases do I position myself on the outer rim like you would in Little League games? In Mustang there is leading off and stealing of bases. Pinto you cant lead off and you cant steal until the ball crosses the plate. Any advice would be great. I have not umpired this level of baseball in probably 10 years or so except 1 man games.

I would always work outside with 60' bases.  You won't have any issues with leads and pickoffs from outside, it will actually make it easier since everything's in front of you and you won't need to pivot

if you have to watch for pickoffs and steals work on the inside. if you have to watch for runners leaving early work outside

Pickoffs/steals = inside for best angle on those

 

No leadoffs = outside to catch the early lead

Even in 60' mechanics you will still need to pivot into the infield on balls hit the outfield. Remember, ball in the infield, you stay out, balls to the outfield, you come inside the diamond. I'm not completely sure, but I believe mustang may be 65 ft bases, and because of the lead offs and stealing I would work inside the diamond. It feels weird when you are used to 90 ft games, though.

Yeah with the Pinto game I did, I worked outside/in. It worked well. It was just an adjustment. The Mustang games I worked inside. It was weird being on such a small diamond but I made it work. Thank you all for the advice.

My bad Lou, the only 60' games I work are closed bases.  I am 6'4", working inside isn't something I'd be comfortable doing - good thing I don't work those games I guess.

Mustang in our neck of the woods is 60' as stated in the OP, whcih I believe is also PONY standard.
