Took a direct shot last night. Foul bunt right through the catchers legs. Loud noise no pain.

Did an 8th grade CYO game last night. Late innings, relief pitcher came in. Kid was throwing from 54' in the upper 60s. Ball bounced up between the catcher's feet and nailed me square in my Buddy. My first hit ever "there", so it took me by surprise, but no pain whatsoever. After the game, upon removing my cup, the blow must have hit so hard that my supporter was sticking to the Nutty Buddy like it was glued to it, but no dent or impression on the cup. What a worthwhile purchase that was.

After a five-game grinder, I must have left my UA-brand triangle (it was nice, don't get me wrong) in the restroom as I was de-gearing for the ride home. So, instead of rushing over to a Sports Authority or Dick's (... yeah, how appropriate a pun, huh?) to get another one, I chose to order in a NB directly from Battle. I already had the sliders w/ pouch, so I just needed the item itself, nothing else (thus why I didn't order from Honig's).

I then proceeded to work as field ump for the next 4 days (one rainout! Whew! I mean, Drat!) while it arrived, and after 6 games with it, I'm sold (kinda can't return it anyway). Battle is using some kind of polycarbonate for the construct of this thing rather than InjMP or PVC. Or maybe it is a heavy grade PVC and I have my materials expertise wrong. Anyway, it is noticeably more substantial than the other brands (UA, Bike, Adams, et.al.). As you can see on the images, though, it's the shape that matters. It sits in a more natural spot, and doesn't drift around between crouch and standing positions.

I haven't taken a shot with it yet, but I did have a whistler through my legs the other day, and the catcher last night had a rather loud cup-check, and those instances gave me pause and reflection...

I caught one yesterday.  First time in my eight years and it HURT.  I'm a little taller than 5'9 and weigh about 170, so I ordered the Trophy, but it's never been very comfortable, so I'm thinking it may be too big.  Contemplating buying the Hog to see how that fits.

The pic below gives you an idea where I was hit.  Right after I got hit, three questions popped up in my head: 1)  Did I just lose one of my testicles?  2)  How much worse could it possibly be without wearing any protection?  3)  Why am I out here today?  Those were all followed by varying curse words.

It affected me for the next two innings.  post-2272-0-84505800-1370190981_thumb.jp
