Another MC?

I'm in 'C'. R3 gets himself in a pickle. 3 or 4 throws and he's gonna be safe diving back to 3B. Or not. F5, waiting on the throw, is standing 5-10' up the line and R3 is OBS. Easy enough, right? Nope. R3 decides to slide, but as he dives, he double-fist punches F5 in the gut. Did that just happpen?

F5 is rolling around trying to catch his breath. AssC for 1BDU comes screaming across the field yelling for discipline. Mgr is already with F5. I head off AssC and smooth it out quickly sending hiim back to his perch so he won't escalate the situation right there in front of 3BDU. He sees the wisdom and obliges.

Now, my TD wants as few EJs as humanly possible. I go to my HP for quick info. Did he have MC? Absolutely. I, trying please the guy who pays me, pull the offending players mgr aside and say, "Tyler, ya gotta pull him." "I'm not pulling him." "Tyler, that's MC and ejectionable. Ya gotta pull him." "You do what you gotta do, I'm not pulling him."

I will mention that Tyler and I have a good relationship on the field. I call alot of his games. He wasn't angry or anything, just felt he had no need to pull him.

Can't please everyone, I suppose.

Verbal EJ report to my UIC describing what I just told you. He says he has my back. Good enough.

As described, I'm not even giving his coach the option on that one.

Why do the TD's do this?  Most of us are not on the prowl for EJ's and most get ourselves in some trouble by not dumping fast enough(see my other post).  If the TD's don't want EJ's they need to tell the coaches to make sure the players and coaches are in line. 

 

As TD for Little League Majors Districts last summer, I lit into my umpires for not standing up for themselves.  First game had 3 no-brainers and a couple more that were legit and nobody got run.  I told all of the coaches to knock it off and then told the umpires if they couldn't manage the games I would find new umpires.  16 games, 3 EJ's all very legit.  For the most part the coaches got everyone in line and when they fell out, the umpires took care of business.  The umpires knew I had their backs and that was one less thing that they had to worry about. One umpire was removed from the schedule...

You mentioned TD. Was this a tournament then? If so, was he suspended for a game?

MC, gone, TD be damned. I work tournaments that say try to keep guys in the game but have no problem if we feel they need to go, toss them. We get a lot of repeat teams and managers know who is going to give them a good game and who isn't afraid to toss. No surprise, they are the same guys.
