First time for everything

Working a JV scrimmage Saturday.  I am BU.  Nothing much going on all game a few bangers but nothing much.  R1 stealing second just barely gets tagged on hip I call out.  Score keeper in dugout I think AC tells me he has to tag him I tell him tag on hip.  Then i hear a fan scream you are pathetic.  Head coach calls time and I think he might be coming out to discuss the call.  Nope he goes to the fence and reams the fan out and told him to learn to watch the game better and keep his mouth shut he and first base coach both saw the tag.  I was speechless.  When the guy first said your pathetic I laughed and first base coach says good thing they are in midseason form.  Coach really surprised here and it was fun to hear him rip into the fan.

I will rarely see it. I did it one night on my Pony parents. I saw a varsity coach throw a fan out for being over the top. It is rare but a beatiful thing to watch when it happens

The very first Pony (11-12) game I ever did (had been LL exclusively up to that point)  I was BU and called a runner out going to 3B on a close tag by F5.

 

The runner got up, looked at me, kinda shrugged his shoulders and said, "What?"   I didn't respond and he walked off the field toward his dugout on the 3B side.  It was a fairly weak complaint and he did not repeat it.  His manager asked for Time and it's granted by PU.

 

Of course, I think the manager is going to come out and question my call, so I'm getting mentally prepared for the discussion, but he turns to the runner I just called out and quietly reams him for showing me up on a good call.

 

I was stunned.

 

In my experience, LL managers do not do that.

I noticed a similar difference when I started calling Pony. The other day, I was PU and balled a close pitch that could have (probably should have) been Strike 3. The pitcher grimaced a little but that was it.

Between innings he came back out to me and apologized for his behavior out there. I was gobsmacked.
