RHB hits a grounder looks like its going to pass 2-3 feet to my right from the C position.

I take 1 step with my left foot to the mound then start to "open the gate" and follow the ball. Wouldn't you know the damn ball took a bad bounce then hit me on the right heel as I'm "opening the gate."

I've never been hit in the infield before and was pissed. I called time. Awarded BR 1st, R1 2nd, and kept R3 at third.

The defensive coach was pissed b/c even though I killed the ball the SS fielded and threw to 1st for the apparent 3rd out. I explained the rule and got the "Aren't you just a part of the field?" He was very courteous and was trying to get the result of the play which wasn't an option.

Luckily for them the very next pitch was a grounder for an easy out.

I felt like a total schmuck I've never been hit by a batted ball and hated to call int on myself. I was both angry and embarrassed.....

Dont feel bad. I was hit in the c position when I got beaned by a liner that one hopped teh mound. i jumped up to avoid it and it struck my ankle flipping me over. After landing hard all I saw was kids going "are you all right blue?" talk about embarrassed. My partner must have called time. I dont even remember. My ankle swelled like an old ladies leg. I did finish, but I dont the pain was half as bad as the embarrassment. Balls and strikes baby!!!

juco game this past saturday, r2 my partner in c gets drilled by line drive on the left leg, he barely had time to flinch, ball comes off him straight to ss who throws to 1st for apparent out, we called time placed runners and heard from everyone how we screwed up. defense wants the out, offense wants the runner at third. nailed it perfectly as did you.
