Acronyms

I'm wondering if it's time to revisit the use of the automated acronyms here? They seem to cause a lot of readability issues and I question their actual value.

I know exactly what you are saying. There is a software upgrade I need to do and I will reassess then.

The problems I see are:

If an acronym is used in a title, the code breaks

Often when an acronym is used in a quote it breaks.

A few of the acronyms need to be modified

Unless the upgrade makes acronym change colors, I don't remember they are even there. If it isn't obvious then I would get rid of them. JMHO

Seems that if you edit a post in mobile mode, the acronym markup is visibly printed and seems to make the post ugly.

I agree with MST that acronyms should be a slightly different color, nothing drastic.

I know a lot of the seasoned guys may hate them, but I would like to see a lot more new members join and I think the acronym tool is one way to make them feel comfortable. Let's just get it fixed, if we can.

I like the idea but unless you know it is there, it isn't obvious enough to let a novice know about it.
