Tigers-Yankees Game last night

Ok, ....

Game 1 of this series ends with a 'semi-clean' slide from Gardner into Guillen during a double play.

Game 2 ...Tigers put Guillen on the DL (knee)

Game 3 opens w/ Garnder getting plunked from Bonderman. Why the delay of a game to plunk him, ...who knows? Maybe because they weren't sure if Guillen would be ok, and/or , they didn't want Verlander to plunk someone? Not sure....

Eric Cooper warns both benches ....... THEN nothing till the 8th, when after hitting 2 ding-dongs, ....Cabrera gets drilled ....and nothing from Cooper ....

Thoughts?

I know there is discretion even after the warning. I don't believe Cabrera was thrown at based on that 1 pitch. The last one was obvious and Cooper did lose control. I wonder what he was thinking about when he decided not to eject F1. Out of the 3, that was the most obvious and he did nothing. By not ejecting, he opened the door for NY to retaliate if they wanted to and should not be ejected for it.

No matter what, he is going to face criticism for his decisions. I don't know about the whole back story and if how much more went on than we know about. Without knowing and seeing the back story, I wouldn't have issued the warning. But, as I said, I don't know what else has gone on behind the scenes as well as during the series. Maybe words were exchanged during game 2 and they took care it in game 3. ;)

One thing is for sure. Cooper did not want to talk to Leyland the second time. He knew what was about to happen.

When Cabrera gets plunked, ....look at the look on Cooper's face ...total deer in the headlights look! Like ...."oh $hit, now what do I do?" (1:14 - 1:18)

Without seeing everything in context it is hard to say if the Cabrera is hit intentionally, but after launching two it' is pretty safe to assume it was intentional. So may/ may not EJ depending on the whole scenario.

Just because you warn doesn't mean you have to EJ, it just makes your EJ stronger after the warning. Also with a warning pitchers can still loose controll of the ball.

My issue is with the pitch behind the last Yankee batter. At that point the game seems out of controll (at least the best you can tell from a clip) He'd pretty much have to go on general principle of game control, and then so would Gerrardi.

I agree. Probably intentional on Cabrera, however, it did look like it got away, so PU gave him the benefit of the doubt. I have seen many times a warning issued and then a pitcher has one accidentally get away and WHOOSH!!! A few times it looks like it could have been OK to let it go.

What happened after that should have been an EJ without hesitation. A pitch behind a batter is never an accident. Just glad the benches stayed put. Then what does PU do?
