I thought they weren't using replay until Williamsport?

In the CT-RI game, it's pretty evident they used it to overturn the no-call on the HBP. IMO, that umpire would have seen it - had he been bothering to work the slot. Sheesh. He got blocked out because his *(&^@ head was directly behind the catcher! Hello?!? Cripes, I couldn't stand to watch more than 5 minutes of that guy - - was he EVER still on a pitch? I saw several where he was getting up to ring up a strike - - and quite literally, the ball hadn't hit the mitt yet! :beerbang It's little wonder he missed the HBP.

Then the NJ-PA game - nice call by U1 on the play at first. He's selling an "out" - - while the ball is rolling toward home plate in foul territory.

;)

Here is the video clip if anyone is interested. Part 2 will follow that shows the defensive response.

On the other hand, I guess the plate guy is lucky it wasn't a cock-shot -- he wouldn't have known it for sure. Look where his head is. ;)

I think that was in the NJ-PA regional game... bases jammed, B4 hits a chopper to F1, who decides to run in and touch home rather than just flipping it to F2. I haven't seen the video of that one, but I've read where the play wasn't even close - nowhere near close - and the UIC bangs the runner out... apparently, the play ended up with F1 actually stepping on R3's leg after it had crossed the plate.

This was also the game just later where a grounder to F4 is bobbled, and he gives up the DP attempt, and throw to F3.... who misses the throw.... as U1 is hard-selling his "out " call.... as the ball is rolling toward home in foul territory. B)

I was watching that game and saw both plays, the one at home plate was close but in the replay it showed he was safe and even with the replay the espn announcers were saying it was a close play. With U1 banging BR out at 1st as the ball sails over F3's head gave me a well needed laugh.

Are there any videos out there on the play at home - does anyone know?

I've heard that it wasn't even close at all, but I haven't seen the vid, though.

So what happened after that one? Did they overrule U1 and let the B/R stay on first, or did the call stand?

He stayed there, ...no one said a thing about the call from U1, so I'm assuming he eventually changed the call once he realized the ball was 70+ feet away!

This is completely wrong.

The play was in fact during the NJ/PA game and was during the same game with the play at first where U1 is selling the out call as the ball goes flying by.

The force play at home was missed badly. R3 was definitely safe at home, not only because he beat the pitcher's touch of the plate, but the pitcher stepped on top of his foot as well. What the announcers said is irrelevant, as they hem-hawed around for a minute before slyly saying "Uhh, yeah that was a close one". I could tell live that he was safe and after ESPN's replays and running it back on DVR several times it confirmed it.
