This happened a few weeks ago and I was talking to a friend about it and I thought it was funny.

I'm third base in a three man crew. No special game or anything they just got a three man. PU is a good guy and has a low Strike zone. If it crosses the plate without bouncing, it is a Strike. The other Ump at first base is a good kid but can be a little lazy. So in the bottom of the fourth, no runners. Batter hits a ball in the gap that the other BU thinks could be a triple and he says "Stay at third I will take second":smachhead::cheers: and starts to move over there. Right away I can see tha there is going to be a play at second because the ball didn't get in the gap. The ball beats the kid into second by five feet and the kid slides. From where I was standing looks out. The problem is the other BU ump is slow getting over(hence the lazy part) and he is behind the play and still running when he makes the safe call(He later tells us that the kid missed the tag. He could have, but the point is by being slow getting into your spot and still running while you made the call you couldn't sell it." Right away the VT manager comes runnning out screaming about how he wasn't in the right spot and the ball beat him by five feet. The BU just stood there and took it. The coach was talking to his pitcher while screaming about the play so I said "Coach do you want an explaintion about the call are is this a visit to the mound?" (I know I shouldn't have) To his credit he said it was a mound visit and didn't bring it up again. He came out to third base after the inning to coach and :Horse:said "Sorry. I just think it was a bad call and he wasn't even close to the call." I just said "It is over Jim, and I don't want to talk about another Umps call or spot" He says "No problem." So we go to the top of the 7th and his team is losing. Two outs tieing run is on first. His batter is called out on a pitch that I'm pretty sure bounced. Game is over, teams are lining up. As he is walkign to his dugout he is giving the HP an earful about that Strike and sees the other BU and starts on him about the Call again. I said "Jim, enough. It is over." So they get the handshakes. Here is the kicker, in this league the Managers have to sign the scorecards after the games so we can get paid. So of course the HT manager signs real quick and runs off, he doesn't want to be involved in what is about ready to happen. So Jim comes over, just signs the card, and gives it to the PU. As he turns to walk away he says, just loud enough for us to hear "I thought with three tonight we would get a good crew. You guys sucks!" walks off the mound and turns and yells "Not you third, you did a good job." :rock I just laughed. Didn't make one call all night, but I was the good Ump. Funny.

===============================================

That's the exact reason why you were a good Ump.... because you did not have to make any call which could have been in his disadvance.... :question1: hahaha... No disrespect meant. :rose:
