Umpire Strikes Back

I just finished Ron Luciano's book The Umpire Strikes Back.

Man I couldn't put it down. I don't often read books, so when I got this one I thought it would sit in the bathroom for months. This book is great and if you have a chance get it. Kind of makes you think about how serious we take ourselves. I wish I was old enough to have seen this guy in person, cause reading about him is funny enough.

I've read the luciano books as well, and agree they are funny.....although Im not sure anyone would reccomend emulating luciano on a baseball field...

Surely not, but it's easy to forget to enjoy yourself.

I read two of Ron's books. He and Durwood Merrill were a couple of very good umpires, and writers, with a bit of character in the American League. In today's politically correct environment they would be squashed.

In any respect, there was a very tragic ending to Ron’s life.

I too read a couple of his books years ago including this one. And I am old enough to remember him and his antics.

I liked this book. Of course, it's easier to picture this guy when you grew up in this era like myself. Without ever seeing him on TV the younger generation may not appreciate Luciano as I do. I realize he isn't an umpire role model in this day in age but was a character though.
