I was looking through this section the other day and wrote down most of the books suggested and headed to 1/2 price books to see if they had them, naturally they only had 1 on the list, Standing the Gaff.

I also picked up "The Man Who Stole First Base", tales from baseball's past written by Eric Nadel and Craig R. Wright (Nadel is the radio voice of the Texas Rangers and I absolutely love listening to him call a game when I'm not watching on tv) The books has a lot of ancedotes throughout the history of the game. It's interesting to read some of the situations that caused some of the rules we have now, such as the IFF.

I was looking through the clearance rack and found "The Umpire Strikes Back" written by Ron Luciano and David Fisher. That's next on my list to read and once I'm done I'll come back here and give an update.

Softballcoach,

You'll really enjoy "Umpire Strikes Back"...I'm about 1/3 way through it and it's already one of most entertaining and funniest books I've ever read! I can't put it down! Too bad about Luciano as he is definitely an entertaining character and it really comes out in the book.

Check out Amazon if you're interested in other books...I went there and bought a whole bunch of books for a great price. Got both of Luciano's books ("Umpire Strikes Back" & "Strike Two"), "Please Don't Kill the Umpire," "As They See 'Em," "The Unwritten Rules of Baseball," "You're Out and You're Ugly Too!" and "Men in Blue."

Got a really good deal as I was able to find most of 'em used and total for all, including shipping, was $66! :HD:

Here are some recommendations for baseball books for kids:

Mudville

My Most Excellent Year

Shakespeare Bats Cleanup

It's hard to find good books for kids, but I do a lot of reading of chapter books and novels for teenagers, so I thought I would share.
