I froze the video of the ejection that Jerry Layne actually executes, but it all stems from this OUT call at first on a double play from Bob Davidson.

Not a chance.

No. He has gone too far and lost all prospective on the play. Now, he is straightlined and won't be able to tell when the ball actually goes into the glove. Plus, he can't see the foot touch the base either.

As it has been said before, don't follow MLB umpires for a lot of things. This is one of them.

thanks , and I see ump_24 agrees also.... and even though I'm not the best versed on all the intricate positions of the base umpire, ...I recognized he's not in the right position and straight-lined.

So, he's out of position, ....AND made the wrong call.......

It's not what I would do but its what more pro umps are doing and according to a friend of mine more what they are teaching. I dont understand it but since I havent been in a position to try it or to a recent camp to learn it and the reasons why they are doing this I will forego judgement on the mechanic.
