Several things are happening

Although he did not have a call, the first thing on this play that was noticeable was Jerry Layne's sight line at :37-:47 and 1:04-1:10. Then where Layne is at 1:24 as runner leaves vs where Layne is at 1:26 which looks about right for a tag up to center. It reminded me of the Tim McClelland play. Both were on the move towards the runner and were looking at the ball when the runner left, but were not at the base yet, to be set and looking at the runners foot and the ball being caught at the same time. The runner was leaning first with his body, which is what threw McClelland off, and then he took off after the ball hit the glove. Seems like this play happened again earlier this year and it looked like the umpire (maybe West) missed that one like McClelland (thunderheads might be able to reproduce the other 2 somewhere). Seems like they are not making it to the spot where they can be set (they are trying to time it but don't make it) to watch both the runners foot and the catch at the same time. I am not trying to bust on any of these guys, just mentioning something that looks like it is causing a problem sometimes.

The runner not re-tagging 2nd base is the next thing that is happening at the top of the screen for the 2nd base umpire.

Also, the time play where the umpires score the run because the runner had crossed the plate before the appeal. However, the young guys need to be aware that some times the fielder may try to get the runner going back to first and there is a close time play with the runner crossing home at the same time the play at first is happening and the plate umpire must line himself up at the FBLE to judge whether the runner touches the plate before the out at first base.

Local umpire(after googling) , Alan Porter, born in Philly and living just outside Philly, gives Charlie the heave ho. Unfortunately, he didn't pop no cherry with this one.

Regardless of whether you think the pitch is low or not, pitchF/x had this as a strike at the knees (8th pitch). However, MLB uses their own system for the umpires but it should be pretty close to this one by pitchF/x which is much closer than the box system seen on the TV games.

Brutal----at least this guy is only making 2,555 per game

thanks thunder, I am putting the original play I messed up on here below to show the umpire looking back at the runner after the tag at home. It seems like you would stay with the catcher and ball to make sure the catcher doesn't bobble or drop it rather than making that turn to look at the runner when the ball might possibly squirting out of the catchers mitt. The runner has already been judged out in his mind and is no longer of consequence, so why look back at him rather than the catcher who has the ball to make sure he still has it?? The school guys could answer this one.

Look at this bush league tag by a catcher no less back in May. Don't be afraid to get that glove down on the ground when you have the ball that far before the play.

Check call by Tumpane tonight at 1:09. Left foot and leg goes over plate, and right foot and leg are blocked from the plate by catchers foot/leg as he tags that back right foot/leg.

Earl would roll over in his grave on this rundown

How many would call safe and then out? Only one call needed with timing.
