I washed my poly-wools at home on the "gentle" cycle, with minimal detergent. After the wash cycle, I hung them up to air dry. Several guys in my association do this. I only had to wash them 1 time through out the season. After my season ended, I had them dry cleaned, so they will be ready for spring.

It will be early March for me.

I was taught to give a VERY emphatic SAFE signal and to say "Play On!" The reason being is that when we say "No Catch" , all any one hears is "CATCH". I have not used this in the field yet, however I have used it on a D3K and everyone clearly understood what the situation was.

I was doing a 14 YO tourney earlier this year when one team was up by double digits. The coach of the team leading instructed his players to "work on something." The batters would come up to the plate and try bunting, hitting to the opposite field, etc. The coach of the losing did NOT have a problem with what was going on. FWIW, I have no knowledge of what Cooperstown says about this.

I am striving to ALWAYS to say "PLAY" and point to the pitcher, even if there are no runners. Today, while doing 6 games in a tournament, I know that I missed at least 3.

I feel that this is a short-sighted response. I have only been hit as a BU one time. HS Fed rules. I was in "C" position. The was sun was going down behind the plate. Sharply hit one hopper the I couldn't see off the bat right away. By the time I saw it, it was too late. I jumped, but it got me on the inside of the right leg. Just because an BU gets hit by a batted ball, it doesn't mean the he has bad judgment. Sometimes it just happens.

After doing a High School JV game with a temp. of 35 degrees with a 20-30 mph wind this past spring, I call my Association VP and asked if one of these was allowed, he replied "around here, they are dang near REQUIRED.:cheers:

OOPS!!! My bad! I was the OC, coaching first base at the time. F4 had ABSOLUTLY no chance to field the ball. It was a shot that screamed by him. As it was, R1 had only taken 2 steps when the ball hit him, and F3 was playing towards the Right Field line. I understand the rule and why it is in place, but in all reality, in this instance, the defense had no chance to field the batted ball. A "step and a reach" is what we use as a baseline for judgement as far as a fielder has a chance to make a play on either a ball or a runner. For instance: R2 going from 2b to 3b, and appears to leave his established baseline, I use "step and reach" to determine if R2 is out for running out of the baseline. I hope that you understand this definition.

I WAS DC! The umpire ruled that R1 was out. I waited for the action to stop and called time. I started to state my case and the umpire held up his hand and walked away. I realize how hard it is to do a game on a 90' field by yourself. The fact that he didn't give me a chance to state my case really chapped me. FWIW, he admitted that he didn't look at where the infield was set up before the pitch.

How would you rule? Situation: Little League Jr. game Single man mechanics. I was the coach. R1, infield playing 2 steps in on the grass. Batted ball hits R1 on his way to 2b. Clearly more than "a step and a reach" from F4. I will give the umpire's ruling after I see how people respond. Thanks, LeoDev

Here goes a rant: Why is it we umpires have to take a test in order to work, but the coaches do not? Case in point: I manage my older boy's Little League Jr. team (13-14). Yesterday, we were at bat, pitch comes in, bounces 5 feet in front of the plate, hits my batter in the knee. Umpire calls time and awards first base. Other coach starts in that because the ball bounced, that the batter DOES NOT get 1st base. The crazy thing is that the umpire was a dad from the stands the the home team gave a "clicker" to and sent him out behind the mound to call the game. He did a decent job, was consistent with his zone. I had no complaints. I thought he did a good job. P.S. I have worked 2 games for the opposing coach, so he knew the I was a certified (certifiable ) umpire. It irritates the $^@* out of me that some coaches are even qualified to be within 100 yards of a dugout. Here endeth the rant. Thanks for listening.

It doesn't matter what level I am working, from high school JV, all the way down to Little Liegue Majors. If we can start a game early here in Central Oregon, we will. Once the sun starts to go behind the Mountians, it gets cold in a HURRY. Everyone that has lived here in the high desert (3800 feet) for at least a summer knows that.;)

LL Jr. game today. I had 2 firsts for me in my 5+ years as a Man in Blue. First first: Bases loaded, can't recall the outs, (no matter). Batter chops the ball off the plate, with lots of topspin, BR runs toward 1B, about 10 feet down the line from the box, batted ball hits the top of his helmet. I call time, BR out, runners return to bases at TOP. Second first: Runners on 1 & 2, no outs. Line drive to F4, catch (out #1), runners off on contact, F4 runs to 2B (out #2), throws to F3 (out #3). And how were your games? :eek:
