I work for this group out of SE MI that pays $30 per game no matter what age level whether its 9U-18U. When they ask me to do anything above 12U I tell them no because its not worth the pay for that level. They need to up the ante for UMPS if they want to attract quality over "Warm Bodies." What do you guys think about out of state tournaments? Im thinking about those too for better pay and do they cover expenses.

@BigUmpire Thank you for the input I feel like its mostly a clique. One official told me "In this its just like HS no matter what circumstance." Its very cliquey among groups and not very good about letting new people in.

Ive had the opportunity this year to do some USSSA tournaments. I feel proud when coaches tell me when I have had the best strike zone they have seen all year. What drives me insane is I get these crappy partners where the coaches earhole them and tell me that "Im doing a good job." They go file a complaint against my partner, but down the road for higher tournaments they keep the bad guys around and weed me out. I do not understand why tournament assignors do that. Can you guys provide your insight? I've had nothing but high praise from coaches.

Hey guys I had a bad day this past friday doing a tournament. Is there any advice on how to get through it? Or how to go about it so it doesn't happen again? I missed quite a few obvious calls that I normally DO NOT MISS.

I worked a tournament a few weeks back not even knowing the guy………… He asked me for a ride to the field and back i kept on making excuses….. THe next day he does it again and gives me a lecture on some bs about officiating ethics and thought to myself I don't even know you. WHat would some of you guys do in that situation?

Hey Guys………. I was doing a 8U coach pitch all-star game the other day. I had an unruly parent come out on the field and start coaching kids and he was not appointed coach. I told him to leave the field and looks at me and says "What the F*#K are you going to do?" I ejected him………….. He started throwing a tantrum out there and started becoming very upset finally grounds crew members and commissioner escorted him out…. This all-star game is for the kids not a parent who wants to show boat.

When a lot of you guys work tournaments do you guys have different color uniforms for working them? Ie Red Black Cream White. Also, do you have some advice on how to pack for a long day of games in the heat? I am starting to work them more consistently and do not have a specific routine.

From My experience with Travel Ball there are ones who just coach baseball and their teams are really good and disciplined. The ones who yell scream at Umps and act like children are the teams that are awful and get mercied every game
