Congrats Jax-You can count to 5!

Here's another good find worth throwing out there to the U-E community, not sure if it is still around but worth a try if someone is in the market for a Wilson Ti Mask for $100... http://tuscaloosa.craigslist.org/spo/2797395284.html Cheers boys!

I would have uploaded it but it was too large a file. Maybe I can get it to Warren and he can bypass the upload limit.

No problem. Glad my screwing around instead of working this afternoon was of benefit to someone!

Thanks for all the helpful links, Brown. I would have made it nice and handy to link to them like your post, but have yet to learn that trick... The stab was all in fun. I don't make free-enough use of those winky-face icons. Right back at 'ya big guy.

Here is the 2012 NCAA Newsletter that was distributed at the meetings if anyone missed it or is otherwise interested. http://DB.tt/HAQYuCF4

Great haul bayoublue! This thread got me looking around. Pretty solid group of listings on ebay at the moment. A nike mask (haven't seen one for sale in month- should get sky high), some white pocket plate pants (if your are into that sorta thing), and All-American chest protector, and an All-Star CP.

Wow. As much as I respect Mike's contributions here day in and day out - Please, for the love of all things holy, DO NOT, EVER EVER EVER TAKE AN INDICATOR ON THE BASES!

Time play Correct. Thanks That's what we are suppose to call these plays. It's picking boogers but it is correct. It may be splitting hairs, but I think using the correct terminology is important, since we are supposed to be the authority of such things.

Anything "Good" Umpires don't like = Softball I'm sure these guys (ahem...and gals) all have their grey ball bags at the ready!

Plate Umpire VI-42 Dix: Yea, astoundingly, "deal ball" and "foul ball" are both in the FED book. However, I would not be surprised if you actually got dinged for saying these things if you were to get evaluated. The way it is taught is to say "Time" in the first situation ("dead ball" should never come out of an umpires mouth). A strong "Foul" works just fine for the second situation. "Foul ball" tends to lead an evaluator to believe you are a bit green or amatuer-ish since that is not normal amongst the better umpires. I am not sure if your leadership are FED-nazis or not, but I am assuming not since the absurdity of some of their mechanics is obvious to pretty much everyone.

Grey ball bags = Softball

Time play Can you explain the difference? I'm pretty sure he was just using the proper term. TIMING Plays do not exist, they are called TIME Plays.

When I first started we were taught to wipe off the IFF. Now we just signal the next play. "Wiping Off" an IFF is a VERY Smitty move around my area, even in the HS/Summer Ball circles....

Of course NCAA assignors are a different animal. In HS I would have a hard time believing a full ban on facial hair would be accepted or followed by membership. You can buck the system Warren, as long as you are willing to accept the consequences (if any).
-
Gotcha. I use that signal often, but to say "I'm staying home".

As far as not signaling back as the base umpire, why would you not mirror your partner's signal back? This definitely puts you on the same page. Signals should not be overt or demonstrative when given either. They are very low key communication between you and your partner only. Some assignors do not want the base umpire giving them back. Just a nod of acknowledgement instead. When in Rome I suppose...

LOL you're funny. Where we meet? And yes it was a college guy and wendeldstad graduate. Like Johnny said maybe I misunderstood. Southern Camp. So anyway-now curiosity is really getting me. What is the mechanic you use to signal this Jax?

Jax-you are a good dude (I am pretty sure we have met before) and one of my favorite posters here. With that being said, there is no way in h-e-double hockey stick a college guy tought you, much less uses any mechanic to relay who is watching a tag up.

YES! And that is where I was going (since you won't play along : ) Don't create signals-don't over think things-stick to what you learn from camp or books-and leave it at that.

Mike-I think you are referring to an alternative "I've got third if he tags" signal.

I in no way meant to be rude, just wondering if you were taught this or you "created" a signal for it?

Jax-what is the signal you use to remind your partner of this? Who showed it to you?
