Ask Ron Gant and Kent Hrbek.

No rule says it has to be the runner's momentum to take him off the base. I am going with no out and possibly a warning to F6 for unsportsmanlike conduct. I will call "Time" as soon as he pushes him. Or, it may be OBS if he doesn't have the ball. Either way, he isn't getting an out unless someone can prove otherwise to me.

I don't know the text book answer off the top of my head, but here's some scenarios. I'm assuming R2 firmly and securely had the base and didn't slide in and touch the base with the tip of his fingertips and a swipe took his hands/fingers off the bag.

1. Kill the play keep R2 where he is and make F6 realize in no uncertain terms that will not happen again.

2. If it is blatantly overt and just bush league. EJ F6 for sportsmanship.

So what is the correct call in this situation? Assuming it was not intentional by F6, just the tag took the fingers off the base.

I would have an out, regardless, due to not fully having possession of a bag. Kind of like a runner removing his hand before calling time and then being tagged out.

Busted! Players don't call time- you do!

Sorry, as far as message boards go you're practically a neighbor, so I had to jump at the chance to give you a hard time.:WTF

If it is not a malicious tag or one where he is intentionally pushing the runners hands off the bag, it is an out. So when he slides and has just the end of his fingers touching and the tag pushes them off bang 'em.

Sometimes, you just have to umpire.

There is not always going to be a rule for every single situation to ever occur in a game. Common sense must prevail.

We are not writing papers out there either; there is no requirement for us to cite a rule on every ruling that one coach or the other has an issue with - it is up to them to know the rules.

It depends on the play. To me, it is all about timing. If the runner is laying there and the play is essentially over, then the runner will not be out. But, if he is still sliding in and the tag comes in, I have an out.
