Ball thrown out of play

Fly ball to right field is caught , the runner from second base leaves early but the ball from the outfield is thrown over the 3B n out of play, what happens to the runner who left early

He is awarded home.  IF he doesn't retouch second, he's subject to being called out on appeal.

 

Any retouch is legal if (a) In OBR he retouches before touching an advance base AFTER the ball goes out of play, (b) IN FED unless he is on or beyond third WHEN 9or after) the ball goes OOP.

 

That difference is only going to come up if R2 is beyond third at the time the ball goes OOP.  He can still legally retouch in OBR, not in FED (we'd let him retouch, but would still grant any appeal)
