I'm 62 and preparing to retire from the 'real job' in less than 2 years.  We're considering relocating to Scottsdale or Fountain Hills.

I'd love to continue umpiring as long as my health allows, hope for another 8-10 years.

Is there plenty of baseball out there year round?

What organizations are the best?

Any other info would be helpful.

@KenBAZ has you well in hand. He is easily the ambassador for baseball umpiring in the Valley, and knows everybody who is needed to know so as to get onto games.

There really aren't associations as you might know them to be. There's JuCo ball and High School ball, but beyond that, we are considered Independent Contactors (thank goodness!), and while you certainly do want to make yourself known to as many assignors assigners as possible, you do not have to endure the rigidity of an association's pecking order.

I would emphatically encourage you to prepare yourself for the ever-present sun and oft-oppressive heat. By contrast, there's something surreal to baseball in December and January, and you're one of the only participants in short sleeves... because you think the conditions are ideal.
