I had the plate today in a first-round summer tournament, featuring a team from Toronto and one from our great state's capital. We're playing for 2 hours only, FED rules (uh oh: international team + FED = WTF, but OK), run rule, etc. Decent hitters, sub-par pitchers (they're saving them for later rounds, of course).

3rd inning: Americans batting, Jackie Robinson (well, he was #42) laid down a sweet bunt up the 1BL, ran the whole way 2 feet in fair, and the throw sailed into RF. RLI, coach can't believe it. "So you're saying he has to run the whole way in the lane in that play?" Pretty much, yeah.

5th inning: Canadians batting, R1, R2, 1 out. DP ball to F6, who flips to F4 covering. R1 slides wide of the bag, catching it with his left hand, and takes out the legs from F4. Easy FPSR call, except that this is a new one on the Canadians (I was slightly apologetic; coach was grumbling at the time but more gracious after he won the game). R1 had no idea what he did wrong (great slide for OBR).

7th inning: Americans batting, R2, 1 out. Batter singles to RF, play at the plate. F2 is waiting with the ball, and R2 lowers his shoulder and trucks F2, who fortunately saw it coming and kinda twisted away from the contact. INT, MC, buh-bye. "Coach, he has to slide or try to avoid the fielder with the ball." Coach tried to sell me on the idea that R2 was just trying to dislodge the ball. Yeah, no. It wasn't the worst collision I've seen — R2 seemed to pull up a bit at the end — but it was the kind of MC that you want to call: obvious, obvious, obvious.

3 or 4 lead changes, 6.5 innings in 1:45, too many runs for my taste, but what are you going to do. Not a bad game, but more goofy stuff than I called all season in HS ball. I work about 5 games in the summer, and games like this remind me why.

International(Canadian) team+FED=WTF....  Truer words have rarely been spoken.  Most people up here haven't even heard of FED rules. glad to hear a semi-local team has done well down south of the boarder.

Had a team from Montreal down here in Buffalo for a (FED rules) tournament last summer. Brought an entire arsenal of BESR bats with them and a local team finally called them out on day 2. Cue $#!@storm. Local team ended up loaning them a bat to use for the rest of the game after they calmed down a bit.
