Saw this last night and heard someone ask if 7.13 should apply to any other players, because right now it explicitly only applies to catchers.

 

Still, what a horrendous toss in the first place.

And people want to just have a "wave them to first" rule?  This is why not.

I believe that when MLB wrote 7.13, part (1) pertaining to the runner's actions applied to any defensive player covering home plate (e.g., a runner shouldn't be going out of his way to tackle a pitcher), but (2) pertained just to the catcher because the catcher has protective gear whereas others are just as unprotected as the runner sans helmet. Nonetheless...loophole.
