Your favorite immature umpire speaking. I messed up, and I messed up bad.

I was invited to come work an indoor game for the elite team and I was told to come prepared for plate.

So I did.

It started with pitch that that was a little low, admittedly, and I called it a strike. First strike in the count, fourth batter of the game. The coach freaks the h-ll out, totally unneeded, storms up to me and I take my HSM off.

First mistake.

He instantly launches into "Why on Earth is that a strike, you need glasses, get off the field!" He nudges my shoulder at which point I eject him. However, I didn't leave him to boil, he kept going and I kept responding.

Second mistake.

I wasn't working with my normal crew, it was two guys I'd never, ever even seen before, fully grown, and they were off talking to each other behind the pitchers mound. So the coach keeps going, his insults getting worse with his swear words, an finally he starts in on the sexism. "Why the ---- do you think you, a God d--- female, can learn the rules of ----ing BASEBALL?! You're better off on the volleyball court, cleaning the house and making food than on the ----ing field!" His DNA print is flying everywhere, and at this point I was really pissed at him.

So my not-so-fabulous instincts take over and I smack the guy around the head with my helmet.

Worst mistake.

Needless to say, he shut up and went back to his bench, but the scorekeeper came out a few seconds later and told me to pack up and go home. Not much news since, but at least I've learned how badly I need to work on my temper before next spring.

Here is why I think you are full of crap.  The umpiring/baseball world is a small one.  Trust me, if there was a "girl" out there who started umpiring who:  refused to wear the uniform, didn't conform to the appearance standards and is confrontational, NO ONE will have you work an indoor game for an "elite" team.  There would be hundreds of better choices of umpires who are professional in their appearance and demeanor.  They wouldn't ask someone who has admitted to the things you have.  

My guess is you are a regular in here who is having fun with us.  It's been fun, but now it's annoying.  We've had enough.  Now leave us alone.

Where on earth did you get "refused to wear a uniform?" And it was no pay, AND it was one game out of something like twelve. And I don't even think there's fifty umpires in my town, so no, there aren't hundreds of other choices.

Who says he won't? There will be 1 less umpire after this. I don't know what you are saying or asking. Your career as ANY spots official is more then likely over.

This is only my first offense (surprisingly) but I don't really care if I get called back or not, because with the exception of, hmmm, three people on this site? Yeah, three. With the exception of three people on this site, ALL OF YOU have managed to convince each other, and even me, a little, that I'm a waste of time who has no clue what they're doing and needs to stay off the field, and you know what? I don't give a XXXX anymore! I seriously don't! So per ALL OF YOU SEXIST, UNDERMINING XXXXTARDS request, you won't be seeing me anymore! I'll stop posting my issues that I want input on, serious input about how I could have handled it better instead of raging comments about how full of ###### I am! Good day, sir!

No one who posted brought up the issue of gender. You did. In umpiring perception is reality. No matter what sport you would have chosen to do word would have gotten around very quickly. Something as severe as this incident, us telling you how to handle it would be a waste of time. Sorry you took it so hard but veteran officials have a knack of being able to call another umpire on something.
