Bases awarded for ball thrown into deadfall territory

R1 & R3. Pitcher from pitching position, throws ball in the stands trying to catch R1 off the bag. Runners get 1 base.
So, if he were fielding a batted ball and did that or attempting to pick off, the runners would get 2 bases. Is this the only difference in the amount of bases awarded?
