13U tournament game.  I'm PU.  Top of 1st, HT lefty pitcher attempts a few pick-off moves.  He's got a wicked move, but his damn 1st baseman can't apply a tag right.  Once the throw beats him by quite a bit, but it appears to me that the runner dives back on the back of the bag, and F3 can't apply the tag till he's on the base.  Partner calls him safe, HT not happy, but nothing to write home about.

Bottom of 1st, pick off at 2nd.  Partner calls the kid out, looked out to me from home.  1BC (AC) - "You missed that call, he was safe.  That's 2 you've missed now."  Loudly.  My partner does not much, other than, "He was out, he got him on the left hand."  And retreats to A.  I'd have EJed here, but it's not my call.

Now in the 3rd inning.  A few more close calls have happened on the bases.  Another pick-off just like the one in the first.  F1 executes wonderfully, F3 not so much.  Same AC in the dugout shouts, "You guys are horrible.  That's 3 you've missed now!"  Very loudly.  I give my partner about 1 second to EJ, which he doesn't, so I do.  "You guys" was enough for me to say it wasn't his call, it could be mine too.  Coach wants "both our names" we are the "worst umpires he has seen."  Yeah, ok, whatever coach.  Here's my name, here's my partners name, go tell whomever you want.  At these tourneys the TD and UIC all have our back 100%.  He didn't coach the next game!

Just wish my partner would have hooked him when he should have.  I talked with him after, he said he doesn't like to EJ.  He told me if I hadn't and he had continued, he might have restricted him.  I tried to tell him, 2 you's and a counting in the same breath, he's gotta go!

Was this a USSSA tournament? Bet not.

Definetely should have been ejected earlier.

"That's two you've missed."

"You're not going to be here to see if there's a third."

BINGO!!

No, not USSSA.  Gameday USA.  I do a ton of these games.  95% of the coaches are great.  5% are like this one.  Think they are owed something.  BUT, every single EJ I've gotten at these tourney's I'm back 100,000% by both the tourney people and my association's UIC.

NOT USSSA. They will not back up the " hired help"

Ahh.  I thought you were saying a coach wouldn't do that.  I have never worked a USSSA game, so had no clue how those go.

Good EJ.

I wouldn't give names. Just get him out of there.

Big,

Must be a local/regional thing.

I've worked numerous U-Trip tournaments around here over the last half-decade and have never had the least issue with site/tournament management.

Sometimes they even have reserved parking for the umpires and make sure we've got water during the games. Handful of ejections backed 100% by the tournament folks.

Treydawg,

When you were at the swamp last year, those were U-Trip games.

I have worked Utrip in the Tampa area and they are good people there. NE Florida Utrip is run by an idiot that just wants to make as much money as he can.

I got him out of there right away, but he told his scorekeeper who at the end of the inning approached and asked me.  I figured it was better to give it to him than say, "No, you know where you can find that information" as that to me is just fuel for their fire to complain more and maybe lead to another EJ.  It's info I give at the beginning anyway.

@UmpJM - I wasn't at the swamp last year... At least I'm 99% positive.  I was there for CL Babe Ruth I think, but not U-Trip.

If the crap is coming from a coach in the dug-out, why restrict him? Particularly an assistant coach, send him home, quickly.

USSSA in NorCal backs umpires 100%.  Coaches toe the line, because they know they WILL be ejected if they don't.

USSSA Georgia is all about the money.

Appease coaches and they will come back.

Always plenty of Smittys to call ball.

Sounds like you had a good eject. Depending on the league, I may have or may not have given my name after the fact personally. I always do at the beginning at the plate meeting, but if I am backed by a good league, I would politely let them know they can file a complaint with the UIC if they want and they know what game it is.

Once the ejection is made, they need to go. I a different coach wants to come up between innings or at a good time and talk about it, I'm not against talking about the play after the game. But the ejected coach got to go. His time there is done.
