While at CDP...

There were a bunch of funny stories at CDP, but here are my three favorites...

Some umps traded or gave away a bunch of their extra crap to kids who asked... One thing a bunch of kids asked for was indicators... I was walking down a long row of barracks in the village towards the parking lot one day, and I saw two kids having a conversation...

 

Kid #1: "How do they do it?
Kid #2: "I don't know, these are weird."

 

I look over and see that each are holding an indicator in their right hand.

 

I tell them, "Hold it in your left hand."

 

They each switch over hands and I get a simultaneous "Ohhhhh!!!"

 

I then grin and say, "Now take your mask off with your left hand so you can make that bang bang play at the plate call with your right hand."

 

I get a small pause and Kid #1 says "... Wow, that's talent!"

Me and another umpire are passing these two kids. One of them is a BIG 12 year old... The other ump tells the kid "Dude, you could use a shave!" as a total joke... We all laugh and keep walking... When we're about ten to twenty feet away, we hear his friend shout at him "I TOLD you, man!!!"

Last one, me and another ump are walking up to the parking lot after the championship game and two players are having a conversation... This is what I heard...

 

"Dude, I told you she liked me."
"She got your number. You didn't get hers. It doesn't count."

"Does too!! She'll call."

"No. She won't."
