Legion Wood Bat tourney -- I'm visiting some friends and umpiring 11 games from Thursday through Sunday.  Last game before the semifinals tomorrow and this game is for fifth place or something like that.  Last game for both teams.  

 

Wild pitch.  F2 fields, throws to F1, R3 slides ride into the glove, which was perfectly positioned.  Out.

 

Head coach is in my back pocket.  He asked me how the runner could be out.  I told him in five words or less.  The conversation quickly turned into him repeating himself and then telling me that I was wrong a couple of times.  

 

(Considering his great view from the coaching box, I guess I should've apologized and changed the call.  Anyhow...)

 

Finally, it was time for him to go back to his coaching box and for us to start the game.  I had started walking him in that direction and he turned again and, having had enough, told him he needed to go back to his box.

 

"Or what?"

 

I was really surprised.  I'm used to dealing with smart coaches.  I think I replied with, "Huh?"

 

He repeated himself.  I ejected him.  Partner rodeo clowned him off and he kept saying, "I got dumped for THAT?"

 

I gave him about all the rope I could (or wanted to) give him.

 

First ejection since May 31, 2012.

My fave was after I ejected a former pro player turned high school coach, he yells, "don't you know who I am?", and I said 'yes Mike, you are the guy who is going to warm up the bus'...

I had an Ex major league player turned college manager that he had never seen a particular call in 30 years of baseball. I told him I guess you can't say that anymore. I was confident in my rules interp, unfortunately I was wrong.

I was working the dish on a post-season LL Jr. game a few weeks ago.  Batter laced the ball down the 3B line and it went foul just before the bag.

 

The OM (in the 3B coaches' box) asks for 'Time', gets it and comes to me with:

OM: "I know that's a tough play to see.  How could you tell it was foul?" 

 

Me: "Uh - I watched it . . . "
