True or False OBR:

Contact is not necessary for obstruction to occur. If the fielder causes a runner to alter his/her course, or intentionally blocks a runner’s vision during a batted ball, the umpire should consider it obstruction.

This is for my Umpire Exam. I am almost positive this is true but for some reason I cannot find the citation.

Thanks.

If it is not different from Fed then it is correct. I don't think there is any difference but I don't do a lot of OBR stuff. In Fed you do not need contact for Obstruction.

2.00 Obstruction - note that contact is not listed as a requirement.

For the vision part you'll need the MLBUM (Item 43 subparagraph (11) in the 2012 edition).

A fake tag with no contact can be OBR. I have called it.

Fake tags are most definitely NOT obstruction in OBR.

Certain organization using OBR as a baseline have added the fake tag  = obstruction bit to their rules but in straight OBR it's just another legal deke.

I stand corrected, I should have specified in Little League!!  Thanks for making the correction!

As long as the runner alters his path or slows down as a response to the fielder, it doesn't matter if there was contact or not
