Newbie from Canada

Hi everybody,

 

After 25 years as a player, I finally crossed over to the dark side! I've been reading the forum for a few months and finally decided to create an account. Thanks to all I've read on this website, my gear order will be close to 700$ at ump-attire! I'm planning to do mostly men leagues and a few players play  at the college level in the States and are touching close to 90 mph. Based on the recommendations I've read here, I don't want to get caught with cheap gear.

 

Being in Canada, our certification system is different. I will be doing my level 1 at the end of April and should do my first game mi-May (if the freaking snow is gone!!!). If everything goes according to plan, I wish to do between 30 and 40 games this summer.

Welcome, yes Canada has their own animal when it comes to umpiring. We have some Canadian members plus I know others.

Where in the Great White North do you call home?
I'm from the east coast, and there are a couple from central and western Canada on here as well

Ottawa is my home. I will also be umpiring in the province of Quebec (Gatineau) a little bit since that's where I will do my training. So far, there is no umpire training schedule in Ottawa in 2013. It seems like Toronto is the baseball hotbed in Ontario by a mile...
