I am on the E-Board for our HS group. We have been having a discussion about whether or not to have a group liability insurance policy. (We do have a lawyer (who works this kind of stuff) on the board and we are working with him to get this done). This is where we are at -

~ Some members have insurance through NASO or NFHS

~ We are not an NFHS state

~ We have been asked for a liabilty policy by some of our meeting places

~ We are using another assignment program other than Arbitor

~ We have talked about doing a group policy through NASO and NFHS

~ We are also looking into other avenues

Questions:

1. Does your group have a policy? If so through who?

2. Do you require your members to purchase there own?

3. Does your e-board have a policy to cover them specifically?

I am looking for thoughts and ideas to bring back to the membership. Your input can help us get through this mess and get back to worrying about baseball.

Thanks

IF your guys are indep contractors they should be carrying their own and your board should probably try to find a "general liability" type of umbrella that covers its activities specifically. The NASO policy is good, and the policy thru ABUA is also very good for individual sports officials, I'm not sure if they have other types of policies. I have carried the ABUA policy for several years and its very good IMO.

The lawyer should provide better advice on The e-board question but it's best to have something separate for that specific purpose.

ABUA is a great insurance to have. www.umpire.org is the website. Jason Klein, former MiLB umpire, is the guy to talk about this. Excellent customer service organization.

Thanks we will check it out

I agree with the members should take responsibility for themselve. We checked the umbrella policy though NFHS and NASO and I was told we need 100% of the membership to be signed up to get it
