Helllo fellow umpires,

Did you see that guy on interstate 75 who passed you on his streetbike wearing a backpack loaded with umpire plate gear?

Thiis time one year ago, I was inspired to umpire. My local big league team's stretch run, my economic situation, and a new acquaintance all meant that come January I was headed to my first clinic.

I threw up from nerves the morning of my first game.

A few months and around 75 little league games later, my season seemed to be coming to an abrupt halt, until I heard tale of a year-round travel ball league.

I did so many games this summer that I now own a car as well as a moto.

What's more, I found my calling. I love baseball more than I realized. I can never get enough. I recall a day when I worked four games, then watched two on DVR. I even love getting out of bed at 5:30 on a Saturday to head to work now, albeit with cruise control and A/C.

I have ridden my bike with all my gear on. Why put it in backpack? You look bitchin in plate shoes, shin guards and a chest protector. But the mask gets it every time!
