Great Game

Yesterday was the first round off our Adult Major Wood Bat League.

2 Man mechanics.

I had bases.

Winds up being one major pitching battle.

We reach the 5th inning and I realize that there hasn't been a runner passed 1B and very few of them.

Top of 7th inning and we have bases loaded with one out.

Fly ball to RF. R3 tags. RF catches the ball, out 2, makes a perfect strike throw to F2 for the out and another Goose Egg on the board.

Top 8th, bases loaded, 1 out.

Batter hits a hard grounder up the middle which bounces just on the LF side of 2B.

SS lays out and comes up with the ball, flips to F4 for out a 2B, F4 turns and fires to F3, DP, inning over.

Bottom 9th and we are thinking this game may go a few extra innings.

Both teams still had only used their starting F1s and had at least 2 good pitchers left.

First Batter - K - 1 out

Second batter - blooper to RF for a single.

Third Batter - Routine Fly to RF - 2 out.

4th Batter - Hits a pitch to Right Center which when he hit it looks like it would be routine for RF. R1 is running on contact. As I turn to follow the ball and watch for a catch, I noticed the RF was looking like he could not pick up the ball and when he did, he turned and was running to the fence. He just missed catching the ball. He gets the ball and I hear the HT manager at 3B Coaching box yelling for R1 to score. The ball and R1 arrive at the plate at the right time so it is going to be a close play. I am watching and waiting for my partner to make the call, I had seen some contact between the runner and F2 but didn't know if a tag had been made. I see the runner reach out and touch HP from behind it and then see my Partner give a great Safe, Safe, Ball game call and mechanic.

F2 had initially blocked him off the plate but didn't get a tag applied.

Love working these types of battles.

Official game time 2 hours 10 minutes.

great game Semper, that was more exciting to read then most of the games I officiate in real life.
