Confused BU

I watched a game tonight where the count was 3-0 and the next pitch was ball 4 and got passed the catcher to the backstop. The BR hustled to 1st and took a big turn, F2 threw to 1st and F3 tagged the runner who was 2-3 feet of the base with the tag being applied. BU called the runner safe.

PU was standing there with his arms out like asking what is going on. Obvious out. To his credit he didn't say anything. He got the game moving again.

To my surprise the DC didn't say anything.

I talked to the Umps after the game. PU said he was just waiting to see if anyone said anything. Like he should.

BU said he got confused and just lost it and didn't know what to do.

It was actually 2 new umpires that got put together to do a game instead of putting an experienced Ump with one of them.

That's what I always stress to guys when they smoke a situation. Put it in the bank and learn from it. The best way to remember something is have it blow up on you. It's not a fun experience but it will stick with you. If it doesn't you won't be moving up.
