When I saw this play live last night I thought everything looked OK. But watching the replays, it looks like U3 calls Patterson out before the Rays make the play on him between 3rd and home when the PU calls him out. You see U3 point and call Martinez out, but then he points at Patterson and says "He's out too" before the PU calls him out on the tag.

With the bad camera angles, I failed to see 1 out recorded. But, they may have tagged R3 on his second attempt to score.

However, R3 doesn't appear to be in contact with 3B if/when F2 tagged R2 while in contact with 3B. R3's hands come up about 6 inches short of the base and never touched it. Or, at least I don't see a touch from these angles.

I don't see what U3 saw. I can't see anyone tagged in the clip until the second attempt on R3 and that could be questionable but only U3 is looking up the line to see a tag or not.

I think he thought he saw a tag of R2 but didn't b/c F2's hand goes behind R2 but doesn't appear to actually touch R2. But, that doesn't matter if R3 wasn't touching 3B at the time of the "tag".

I just don't see a DP in the clip.

YES! in the replay, you see Wolf signaling R3 out before the tag is made between 3rd and home ...wierd. But, that said ....

R2 is out, assuming he was tagged by F2, (video doesn't show it really clear, but I'll have to give Wolf the benefit of the doubt since he's standing there ).

So, then, R3, who occupies 3rd, ....leaves towards home.....and is tagged between 3rd and home.

If the above is actually what happened ....then there IS a double play.

Again though...in the replay, what is Wolf signaling out for, before the tag?

R3 may have been called out using 7.08(a): "Runner believing he is called out on a tag at first or third base starts for the dugout and progresses a reasonable distance still indicating by his actions that he is out, shall be declared out for abandoning the bases." (comment).

Not saying I agree or disagree with the call, but that may have been the reason he called R3 out.
