I just bought a can of Scotch Gard for the collars and trim on my new shirts. I've never used it before. So, how much do I spray on? Do I spray then wash? Do I only spray once? Do I only use on new shirts?

Also does this only help the collar from fading or does it also keep the collars stiff?

Follow the directions on the can. You will need to do it every once in a while. You don't have to wash them right after you spray them. The shirts don't have to be new.

I think you're thinking of starch that keeps fabric stiff.

Like he said. A couple of light coats like the can says. Then, every now and then, give it some more.

Also, wash your shirts inside out, don't dry them in a dryer and don't fold the collars over when you hang them up.

Thanks for the advice guys. I always hang dry my shirts, but that's a good tip about not folding the collars when hanging.
