A daily reader here, but I seldom post. But this one needs telling.

LL 10U. Squibber up the first base line fielded by the pitcher who tries to tag BR. BR runs into foul (outside his Base path) and I call BR out. Crowd noise drowns out my call and pitcher throws to F3 (over his head naturally.) BR winds up at 2nd. I point to BR and call him out for running lane violation. 1st base coach goes nuts. " He threw the ball away!! He can't be out." " Coach, he ran out of his lane." More Screaming ."Coach, that's enough." ( Something that I learned here.) Still ranting. I put my hand up in stop sign and that's enough. Not quite. Simple-- coach you're done. He's in dugout getting ready to leave, " The run counts, right." I ignore him.

Two innings later, head coach comes up to me and says, " My second batter coming up is the kid you called out." "OK." " He's got one leg shorter than the other." WTF??? "Coach, he was out for running out of HIS LANE." Coach places his hand on my arm and says, " I know he was. I know he was."

How many times has a coach pulled the Shorter Leg trick on you guys??

I'm confused. When you say "lane" it usually means the 3 foot lane starting at 45' from HP to 1B. Obviously, you are talking about a 3 foot violation which caused you to call the out (whether or not the runner was in the infield grass or the foul grass). The shorter leg thing went right over my head. Please explain. It's not your fault it went over my head.

Sorry for the confusion. But that was my main point for posting. I had no prior indication of this player's condition. It was a quite simple call that we have all seen with this age group. When the head coach approached me between innings ( calm and friendly ) and told me what he said I was expecting some sort of plea for the kid. Nothing, absolutely nothing more than I posted. It left me dumbfounded and confused. I still am. Maybe, just maybe, the coach thought this was enough info for me to be ready for whatever. The kid ran straight as an arrow until his hard right turn on the tag attempt. Maybe it was a subtle plea for his coach ( who might be the boy's father.) My last sentence in my post was a lame attempt at humor.
