It's not just the umpiring part of the book but the life stories as well.

I first saw this book on ebay and didn't win it so I followed up with an email to the Motley's and got the book through them, autographed by both subject and author.

An easy read....a chapter at a time...and you can just fly through it!

Excellent book! We can all relate to this umpires passion for the game. I definitely admire this person for his persistence at going after what he wanted in life. So many road blocks and he kept pushing through them. Too bad he didn't get a taste of the Major Leagues. He may have packed up his quest for the Majors but still went back home to his career job and still kept umpiring. He still had a great career in the Negro League and witnessed players from Satchel to Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks and everyone in between.
