I use a set of Diamond iX3 shin guards which have the metatarsal protection along with the padding for the sides of the foot. I also use the 3n2 plate shoes which has the metatarsal protection.

Is the metatarsal protection on the shin guards redundant? And can I cut off without sacrificing protection?

How do your Diamond shins fit you? Is the metatarsal guard completely overlapping the plate shoes or is it covering a gap? I have the NB 460s and have no need for one but your mileage may vary. That said, you're probably safe in removing it but check your gap coverage first to be sure.

I always cut off the metatarsal plate off the shin guards. Thats what you have plate shoes for. I think it looks very bad to have gear coming out of your pants like that. You see no major league guys with the metarsal plates on the shinguards. Remove it.

Remove it. But before you cut it off, just un-velcro it - much easier that way.

The Diamond iX3 metatarsal plates are just secured by velcro, so don't go too crazy... :hi5:

I looked at it yesterday and decided that there was no gap. It will be taken off today!

I never noticed that on any of the major league guys...never even thought to look. Thanks for the advice.

What would you do about the pads protecting the ankles...they stick out of the pants just a little bit. I think I need the protection there.
