A big hello from the Florida Panhandle

I just found this site and had to join in . I started calling again last year after being inactive for 8 yrs . I tore up a knee playing softball and after

re-hab got a job working out of state coming home every 4-6 weeks . I have since retired . Last year , I was at my grandson's soccer game and

saw some baseball games going on , so I wandered over and ran into the park director . After some small talk , he asked me if I had thought

about umpiring again . I told him I might be interested and he asked if I could start the next Monday as he was short an umpire . This started

a mad scramble trying to get ready. I still had my old WVP protector , guards and mask and other accessories in my bag but no unis . Fortunately,

the local sporting goods store had a supply of shirts ,pants and hats so I was set . Monday comes and I've got the 14 yr. old plate .I was nervous as hell and broke into a sweat putting on my gear . After the fist couple of innings , I started to get some timing back and I to feel the old vibe . After

a few weeks, a tourny came up and I was asked to call . That turned into almost every weekend last summer . I even started calling USFA again !

This year , I took the plunge and registered and tested for FHSAA baseball and fastpitch for the first time since I hurt my knee . I'm 58 now and will

try and stick around as long as I can be a credit to our calling . A love lost and then found is very sweet my friends.
