I was doing a dixie ozone 11-12 game. I havea kid who had caused a few problems earlier in the year. He comes to the plate i call strike one on him for a perfect pitch he shoots me a look he then gets a couple balls the fouls a pitch off the we get a corner pitch i ring him up. He is walking away and says that was 5 feet outside. I tell him get in the dugout I heard enough or Im going to have to toss you. He then says do it then. So I honored his request. Then the coach is like its the inning you cant do that. I explained i tried to move him along he wouldnt take the bait. He is like I have never seen you throw out a kid. Im not sure your level headed enough for working with kids. I looked at him and said you know I am a childrens counselor during the day right. He then trys to throw in an illegal ball which brings down our site director who tells him to coach or leave.

I probably wouldn't have said this part. I would have let him know that was enough. If he would have kept going on his own, then toss him. But this could be seen as baiting which leads to him saying what he did. It doesn't give you very many options to try and keep him in the game.

The skipper would have been going right along with im in the situation in the op. As soon as he makes a comment like that which makes it personal :question1:

Just a couple thoughts and observations.

I agree, when dealing with players or coaches you have to pick your words carefully so you don't paint yourself in a corner or bait a guy into an ejection. Saying things like not another word is bad phrasing. Saying that's enough or it's time to play but don't threaten or give ultimatums.

I was site managing lacrosse today and I heard an official tell a kid that was her last warning, next time was a card. I was wondering how many warnings there had been but if you are going to warn something say something like back it down, you're close or ease up. What you want to avoid is avoid saying things like if you do again you will be gone. That opens you up to a problem if things go south later and it is said you weren't enforcing things that lead to an escallation or an injury.
