Question about acknowledging a fourth out

Sorry, forgot about adding the R3. I was running sound for a county council meeting so I was somewhat distracted.

Then why does it matter? If R1 is the only runner (other than BR), and he's tagged out going back to 2B for the third out, why even care about the appeal?

In other words there was R1/R3 2 outs. Obviously R3 scores on the play but then R1 is tagged out scrambling back to second base.

That is what sparked the debate.

You are correct if there was only R1 - who cares.

Now I have one question that stirs from one of the posts in that article. In the article, it says an appeal can happen in unrelaxed play if the runner is tagged. Would this be correct in assumming so from the article?

If appealing during unrelaxed play then you have to tag him. If appealing during unrelaxed play then you can either touch the base or tag the runner.

Think about a runner scoring. He misses the plate and starts back to retouch, you have to tag him. If he goes on through and starts toward his dugout, making no attempt to retouch then you can just touch the plate, you don't have to chase him.

This is a play I got protested on at states.
