1st Ejection for 2010

Freshman Game today.

Top of the 6th, 2 outs.

R1 on 2B.

F1 turns and throws to F4 covering 2B for a pick off.

R1 is really hung out :WTF and takes off for 3B.

F4 quickly throws a bullet to F5 who is waiting to apply tag.

R1 starts to slide but only gets to his knees and puts a shoulder into F5.

F5 is knocked backwards and ball is dislodged.

My call "Time" "Runner is out for Malicious Contact" and then he gets the EJ mechanic from me.

No argument from anyone.

HC later comes to me and says he spoke to his player and that he had no intent to make MC, just he is a bad slider, but understands my decision. :smachhead:

TY Steve but perhaps he should learn to slide properly so it does not occur again. :givebeer:

So let me see here.... the "COACH" is blaming his player for being poor at sliding. :censored:

The coach said this. ;)

Wait - was this the coach? The coach said this? :HS

OK, I really don't understand the FED MC rule.

If this situation happened here, provided the botched slide be deemed unintentional, all is good.

Our key phrases are "intentional excessive force" and / or "intent to injure"

Come to think, this sounds exactly the same as a situation we had last year in a 14U tournament championship - I was on the stick, U3 called no MC. No argument (though the next pitch suspiciously found the batter's rib cage when F1 had pin point control till that point - hello warnings!). U1 and I agreed when we discussed the play after the game - R2's spike caught when going into the slide.

I think you understand the FED ruling just fine.

You probably could of called an illegal slide and got the same result minus the EJ. Only had that call once would love to not have to make it or contemplate it again.
