Interesting situation last night...

College Summer wood bat league

bottom 8 (last inning due to darkness)

tie score

R1, R2 1 out

F1 picks off R2 into a rundown, he runs out of the baseline avoiding the tag by F5. F5 immediately throws to F4 to get R1 sliding into 2b. Here's the rub, BU has not had the chance to turn around all the way from the call at third. I'm working my way up the 3b line to help withe rundown. I watch the play at 2b and think to myself "got 'em. Game Over". But I don't make the call. BU makes no call as the DC yells for an out call. BU calls time and we get together. I told him what I had. He clarifies, steps away and calls the runner out.

I think BU did a great job of recognizing the situation and gathering the information he needed to make the call.

I agree, great call and great team work! Nice job on the side of your partner for getting with you to make the call. Unfortunately, spectators sometimes look at this as umpires 'not knowing what is going on' or 'being incompetent'; however, if one knows anything about baseball and umpiring, they know that you are doing your job very well. Most important thing is to get the call right.
