I usually stay inside...

Actually, I watch for 2 things mostly...1 - standing water and 2 - players slipping. I'll stop it based on that.

Also, if the teams are both moanin' and groanin' and don't want to be there, I will give serious consideration to granting their wish.:yippie:

We make our umpires memorize these words.

I watch for puddles, pitchers slipping, batters slipping. Any of those things happen I suspend. If the rain is hard enough you also have to stop. You cannot try to put staydry down until it stops raining.

Remember safety is always priority. I will also add that its not only safety for the players but for us umpires as well. The players are wearing cleats, obviously more traction. Unless they start making plate shoes with cleats we will be more susceptible to slipping before the players. If I cant clear the catcher and bust up the line without feeling safe, thats enough for me to stop play.
