We had a LL All-Star baseball game suspended tonight due to weather. We know who is ineligible each team's pitcher threw way more than 40 pitches. I'm 99% sure they aren't, just to be sure there isn't something funny. The pitchers who were ineligible to pitch at the start of the original day of the game remain ineligible, correct? Someone asked that and I wanted to verify if that counted as a game of rest for them even if it wasn't completed.

I do not have my rule book with me but check it out.It is spelled out in there.

Right, I could have elaborated. How it's in there is how I explained it for tournament play. He seemed to think this is allowed. I'm just double checking. That's why I'm 99% sure. So unless there was something I missed about what constitutes a game for the purposes of a pitchers mandatory game of rest. I read it to mean a complete game of rest whether that game was suspended or not. Just double checking and to know how to tell them tomorrow. Our chief is going to call me and them with the explanation anyway.

Oh and part of the problem is the umpire who was UIC for the game is unavailable for tomorrow. So I have to go by his notes on the specifics of substitutions, etc outside the affidavit.

As I understand it there is the answer on the LL site's Q&A for TDs. I believe the game does count as a game rest. As far as subs, the pitchers should be on the affidavid, the rest should be in the official book.

Well, the head umpire in the district says it doesn't count as rest and he remains not eligible because the game was suspended. Now I'm all confused. Can you link me to this resource? I cannot locate it. The way I read the tournament pitching rules, I don't see how he can pitch. This is 10/11 yo BB division btw.

I was working this game, but wasn't the UIC so I didn't have the information. The UIC for the game can't go Wednesdays. He gave me the sheets after the game. Everyone has been subbed in and met reqs.

Make sure you read the Tournament rules and not regular season rules. I don't have my book with me or I would help more. I am pretty sure the rules for pitching are that after so many pitches he ( she ) has to have so many games and days rest. The game part is a full completed game. Good luck.

Right, that's how I read it. But some people have told me he could pitch in the continuation of this game but can't provide anything to back it up. The way I read it (yes, the tournament rules) is that he could pitch in a NEW game if they so had one before the suspended game was resumed but not suddenly be eligible for this game if he was ineligible at the start. I know the two pitchers of record can't pitch because they threw more than 40 pitches (T 4-h).

If they were pitching when the game was suspended, why are they not allowed to pitch? I understand LL wants to look out for the players, but that makes no sense to me. The game isn't over, so why should they be "penalized" by being required to take the mandatory rest already.

Sorry to get off topic, but that seems a bit overzealous on protecting the pitchers' arms.

It's the rule. Doesn't make sense to me either. But Tournament rule 4-h says.

In a game suspended by darkness, weather, or other causes and resumed the following calendar day, the pitcher of record at the time the game was halted may continue to the extent of his/her eligibility, provided he/she delivered 40 or less pitches.

It gets worse, read 4-i. If the game is resumed at a later date. The pitches from the new game count for this game for eligibility in the resumed game (for the pitcher of record). Not sure if it is added on or overrides the pitch count from the suspended game.

Here are the rules covering the pitching eligibility for the continuation of a suspended game: Tournament rule 4.

c.Junior League: a pitcher remaining in the game, but moving to a different position, can return as a pitcher anytime in the remainder of the game, but only once per game.

h. In a game suspended by darkness, weather, or other causes and resumed the following calendar day, the pitcher of record at the time the game was halted may continue to the extent of his/her eligibility, provided he/she delivered 40 or less pitches, and subject to each of these conditions:

1. If the pitcher delivered 20 or less pitches before the game was suspended, that pitcher's pitch count will begin at zero for the continuation portion of the game;

2. If the pitcher delivered between 21 and 40 pitches before the game was suspended, that pitcher's pitch count will begin with the number of pitches delivered in that game;

i. In a game (Game A) suspended by darkness, weather, or other causes and resumed more than one calenday day later, the provisions of (h.) above shall apply, unless the pitcher of record pitched in another game or games after Game A was halted. In that event, eligibility to pitch in continuation portion of Game A shall be determined by the number of pitches delivered in the game or games after Game A was halted.

Yeah, looking at those it validates that he's not eligible. The rules you put are the ones I used when explaining that their pitchers of record are not eligible for today's resumption.
