OBR, R1, R2, 1 out. 3-man crew, I'm U1, U3 has never worked 3-man before.

Ground ball to F6 that grazes U3's pants...F6 - F4 - F3 double play. BR says to me didn't that hit the umpire? I ask U3 and he says no it hit my pants. I call time and bring the defense back out, put the BR on first and R1, R2 to 2B & 3B.

I explain to the defensive coach the rule and what happened. This is a men's league. All his says is "the umpire makes a mistake, and we get F____ed?" My only answer was yes.

Any comments? I think I laid out the facts. The offense scores a run on the next play and then the defense gets their DP.

Whether the U3 was experienced with 3-man or not, he should still know better than to stand that far right of the pitchers mound if he has done any 2-man. Majority of the balls hit are to that side of the field, there is no excuse to be hit by a batted ball on that side.

I don't know that it's inexcusable to be hit in the infield, that happens. It's inexcusable to not know the ruling when it happens.
