  1. Ok calling it a strike if the ball is any where near the strike zone. no one has any reference points. The batter shouldn’t step out during the pitch. The pitch has to be a ball or strike. If the ball bounces or doesn’t make it to the plate, has to be a ball 50/50 pitches penalise the batter for stepping out. no rule refferance at the momment. Did the catcher catch the ball cleanly. Rule reference:- 6.02 The batter shall not leave the batters box after the pitcher has become set. or starts his windup. PENALTY, if the pitcher pitches the call shall be ball or STRIKE as the case may be.if it is ANY where near the zone its going to be a strike, how can a ball be a penalty?
  2. If i have a problem with a catcher that blocks my view i do the back and up move, and inform the catcher what he is doing and if i cant see bla bla, normaly they are compliant, if i have an issue, i will go talk to the coach about the problem between innings, its not up to me to coach players. Then normaly things get better.
  3. OK am i missing some thing or reading two much into the play. This is how i see it. Pitcher pitches, Catcher recives the ball, catcher moves to tag runner drops the ball. Runner scores. The catcher had a right to be there as he had possesion of the ball and cant be expected to disappear when he droped it. because the batter stepped out i would call a strike. But if by stepping out the batter made the catcher drop the ball. call R3 out for the interferance of the Batter less than 2 out or batter out with 2 outs. run wouldnt score. By the way shouldnt `B4` be BR

    Umpire Manuals

Working 1 man isnt a system its a pain in the ass! as Jimmy would say. I have had the J/R for a few years now but i find it confuseing in places. we use OBR with there interpritations. I use the PBUC red and blue book and Jimmys rules index. Our assositation uses Jim Evans teaching as we have around 7 members who have been to The 5 weeker and `classics`. I have seen some of the 3 man book and it looks rearly usefull. I will get a copy of the new 2 man, when my buddy comes back from the 5 weeker. Also i`m geting an e reader for christmas so dose any one know of any of the manuals are in PDF or electronic form. Eddie
  5. If i hear a team say the outs, I have a diffrent one. i signal to my partner for confermation. if on my own i will signal the outs as soon as i can. and if questioned i would go to the score keeper. I find prevention is better that letting your game management get out if control.
  6. The level of ball over here is difficult to judge as we have such a different level of players, I would say higher level High school, too low level collage but am willing to change my view as i have only ever seen a high school team that came on tour over here in the early 80's we have collegiate and independent league players playing over here. The standard in Europe is much higher.
