I had this happen to me last Saturday in a game. Instinctively as an umpire I looked at 1st base and there was no runner there because he was almost to 2nd base. SO on the droped third strike I stepped back to give the safe sign. The runner reached first base ok as second was stolen but 1st base is occupied at the time of the pitch. I momentary lapse of concentration there. Bottom line be aware of the situation before a pitch happens and you will be ok. We called the runner out and got it correct. Everyone has to see these things first to get it right the next time. I am a big believer in that.

My mom bought me two pairs of these pants. They are sitting in my storage room now. I did not even bother to hem them. I can almost where them on the basketball court they are so dark. I have no problem with the quality but the color is too dark for most umpire pants I have seen.

I just bought a base and plate pair of the Honigs ultimates. I like the ability to adjust the waist size. I have a 32-33 inch waist and bought 34. I have worn Combos in the past but the look of the plate and base pants when you are on the field is unmatched compared to a combo pair. Honigs was out of my size in the poly wool but I will grab a pair for next season.
