  1. Ok, ...

So basically, .... R1 CAN retouch as long as he doesn't touch 3rd first? Correct? That's what I'm reading, yes?

Just remember, it matters when R1 touches 3B and the ball goes OOP. If he touched it before the ball went OOP and not HP yet, he can return to touch 2B. If he touches 3B after the ball goes OOP, then he cannot return to touch 2B legally.

Key word... he can physically, but not legally..LOL

  2. nope.. this is a double play.. yes r2 was OBS.. but since there was not a play being made on him it will not make a difference..

Also i know in fed the signal... but please don't put out your left arm and hold it there.. that looks LL ish.....just point and say "that's OBS"

  3. I also received the email. I could see this coming at some point. Hopefully it will be out for the iPhone before spring baseball.

I also have rules in my phone as well as the Jim Evans Balk Video. I watch it all the time if I am sitting around.

I have the balk video, how did you put it on your phone?

  4. Understood. The batter can be in the box and still interfere, but in this example, the batter did nothing to warrant the call.IN a D-3 game, I had a catcher deliberately make contact with a batter on a throw to second. First thing I looked at were his feet. The catcher made it too obvious because he leaned into the batter as he made the throw in trying to sell it. His head coach came out asking for interference and I told him the first thing I looked at were the batter's feet and they were both in the box and I had nothing. That stopped him in his tracks and the argument was over.

The problem is with an explanation like that, a myth is being perpetuated. It may have stopped him but for the wrong reason. The better, more appropriate response would have been the batter did nothing to interfere and F2 tried to make the batter interfere. Whether it stopped him or not is beside the point. The response would have been better supported by the rules if a protest is filed and the coach would know better if one of his batter's, while still in the box, gets called out for INT. At least, he would know his argument of "both feet in the box" is not a valid one even if he tried to pull it out of his a$.

Now, it is a headache waiting for another umpire.

Now you're talking about judgment, as in who initiated the contact, which, of course, is non-protestable. In this case, "both feet in the box" is a very important ingredient. If I were to use your response, which is also valid, that issue is now debatable, according to the defensive coach. Chances are pretty good that the result is a prolonged discussion as to who the offender is

Both feet in the box have nothing to do with anything..the box is not a safe heaven for the batter..

  5. please dont ever do this in a game... the kid gets run over, to bad.. by you putting your hands on a kid, your opening your self up for a lawsuit. And if your one of "those" umpires who think it won't happen.. it will.

  6. Dumbdumb, they are teaching that if that PU doesn't see this, to kill it right away, but the BU better be 100% sure, but the manager can come out to get the PU ruling on the play, and what you said is nothing wrong, ( telling the coach that if the ball hit the players foot some one would have killed it)... I thought it was handled correctly.. heck even with the infrared we are still not a 100% sure it hit his foot.

  7. Ok so here is some of my background and goals. I am going to school with full intentions of getting a job. I have been well trained mechanic wise and have recieved top student at both clinics I attended this summer. I believe this is one of my strongest points, and feel more comfortable working live situations.

BUT with that being said, theres been twice this year that I found myself not knowing how to apply a rule to a certain situation. Of course I looked up the rule after the game, but it makes me aware that I need some help in this dept.

So i guess what am I asking is should I go to a school that highlights my attributes or a school where I can learn the rules?

Our rules guy who is our Chief Instructor is believed to be one of the top 5 rules guys in the country, Big leaders still call him to ask him rules..Harry's will teach you how to apply the rules on the field as well and knowing them..

Yea maybe at Harry's we didnt take 700 questions for rules test, cause we spent the rest of our time on the field learning to Umpire and apply those rules..

Also ask the Umpireschool guy on here he will answer any of your questions.

  8. If you feel more confident umpiring live baseball go to Harry's.

Jimmy's has controlled (fungo hit baseball) situations.

I have no idea what PBUC's school is going to have.

What are you looking for in the schools?

    PM me.

    James

    Harry's also does fungo's...LOL

If you want to sleep on the beach and wake up everyday and look out your window and see the sun rise over the eastern shores of Florida go to Harrys'

If you want to learn better mechanics go to Harry's

If you want to have fun, learn the rules and become a better umpire.. go to Harry's..

Do you see where Im going with this..

Also are you going to for a chance at a Pro Job? Not sure if James has been to one of the schools, But I have some really good buddies who went to Jim's last year..

Pm me if you have questions

  9. I wont lie... I don't wear one, and I took a nick in the throat.. I tried to wear one for a while, I don't like how it feels.. but if you have a good stance and good forward lean, you will reduce your chances of getting hit... But the baseball will always find you.

  10. Mazz, his lean does center him over his knees so he is probably pretty balanced but I was thinking a little less would save his back.

maybe, But I know with good forward lean, he will be able to see the low outside pitch... which is very important.

  11. Mazz...Why don't you want to fold a cap with the band over the brim? Just askin'. I liked the look and could find nothing on how to fold them. I dug thru some old threads and came up with one dealing with folding caps. I did a couple of google searches and found the youtube vid...seemed logical to me.

if you fold it like in Kevins Pic.. it will get you the extra crease on the back of your hat as well.. and when all said and done, it looks pretty good.

  12. - Why not AZ?

It stands to reason that PBUC prefers their umpires and schools to be consistently accredited and licensed, and Florida is the national leader in accrediting non-traditional educational institutions such as an Umpire School. Florida's Commission for Independent Education regulates, among other things, nondegree-granting, nontraditional educational institutions. All three Florida Umpire Schools have been accredited by the CIE. It stands as an insurance measure for both umpire students and the three schools, in that CIE, by virtue of its licensure of PBUC/JEAPU/WUS, protects students from unfair business practices, while the schools are protected from certain limited liability issues.

Arizona on the other hand grants licenses via the State Board for Private Postsecondary Education. AZ's Vocational Program License doesn't offer the same benefits as Florida's version of accreditation nor does it require the same standards for licensure. Again, PBUC could place a school in Arizona, but that would create disparity and an inconsistency in licensing standards.

I see they've taken over the old Dodgertown at Vero Beach... but decided not to replace the mural which Klemm is standing in front of.

None of the pic will be taking done..it is a part of history. all of the signs about Dodgertown are gone. I will tell you the facilities are awesome, the food, fields, and rooms... and Justin Klemm is really a great guy, loves his job very much and cares about Umpiring.

  13. You mean he was looking out for his 30 million dollar a year soon to be ex-teammate. Everyone knows Theo will bring Albert to The Cubs next year.............

    Tim.

We'll see. I think Cards fans are more reasonable than Cubs fans, and there's not too many Cards fans that believe he won't be here next year.

I think they made their long term decision about Albert the moment they signed Holliday. It would probably be the best thing for St. Louis to lose Pujols. If they keep him, they'll have the best player in baseball, and no other significant talent to go with him. They won't be able to afford it.

    Tim.

well with no talent they made it to the world series.. and lost their #2 pitcher before the season started, struggled with starting pitching all year, they get one more pitcher to go with Carpenter, and wainright.. they will be pretty tough...Pujols is not going anywhere...

  14. I haven't used blue ball bags in years. If I am forced to wear dark blue I use black bags. I think the dk blue looks horrible with the charcoal pants, which all I wear now. When I wore heather I used grey bags. I saw an umpire wear heather bags with charcoal pants and I gave him a fit, it looked like crap. As far as the guy complaining about the base guy wearing a jacket with the PU wearing a shirt, that's BS. Sometimes on the bases it is acceptable for him to wear a jacket. The opposite is not true.

. I think it is BS too. Apparently though, those guys were doing something good if all that is noticed is their attire.

Well as we all know with all the extra gear on it gets warmer behind the plate... this is why most of the time the Pu is wearing a short sleeve..and while your on the bases, and not moving as much, you will not stay as warm. ( hence the jacket)

  15. Guys, I store may hats with the front folded down to the bill, that back is then pulled over the bill. I always get a "dip" just behing the crease and the button tilts forward...not to mention sits on my head while wearing it...

this is a link to how I do it...I'll try to post pics later..

    http://www.youtube.c...h?v=eiGopdFr_bc

    You mean, like this?

Kevin, it's similar, but not quite the same. You take the back of the hat and actually wrap it over the bill. Watch the video and it will make more sense.

Dont do this your umpire Cap... fold it on top of the fold you already made, just like Kevin's.. it's really not that hard.
