but it really wasn't an ejection. My brother is coaching his son in the 9/10 division so they have to umpire the 11/12 division. Yesterday he called me to see if I could do a game for him, which I couldn't, so off he goes to make his umpiring debut. I gave him some tips on positioning and what to watch for on 60ft bases. Well, before the game even starts a kid gets popped in the mouth taking infield. They get that taken care of and the coaches and he were saying you hate to see a kid get hurt. All is could, everything is relaxed, or so he thought. 9 pitches into the game the manager comes out on the PU asking about catcher's interference, which he doesn't have. He goes to my brother who doesn't have it either. In usual coach logic, the manager goes after Randy saying there is no way he could miss that from the bases. Randy tells him he doesn't have it, play baseball. The manager wants to extend the conversation so my brother tells him to drop the attitude, that it isn't needed in an 11/12 game. The manager didn't get it so Randy again tells him that the attitude needs to go. He then followed it with," We don't both have to finish this game. Do you understand me?" First game out and he proves he is my brother. Game finish without a whimper.

When he called me to report he described the coaches and I knew exactly who it was.

I talked to my brother tonight, we are working together Wed night. He will be on the bases, me on the plate. This is the league that we both played in and I started umpiring in when Randy played, 36 yrs ago.

Well I got my shot at umpiring with my brother last night. It went well, he is pretty clueless, too fast, not in proper position, and unsure, but he didn't get in trouble so it's all good. It was the same manager that he got in trouble with the last game he did. We had a continuation game, tied in the top of six. We had a meeting early to cover where we were in the game and clarify any questions on who was in/out, who could pitch and how it affected the second game. The one manager said it was his understanding that the pitcher of record had to take the mound before he could be removed. :question1: No, if you want to change, go ahead. The pitch count picks up where it left off. He quoted the section that says all pitching records count. :question1: No, it means everything except pitch counts. If the pitcher of record has all 85 pitches then he is good for all 85. I added that goes for the four innings for the catcher, new day, new count. The only bone of contention was when it got to not throwing in two games in a day. I said if you pitch in the continuation then can't pitch in the regular game. They agreed that was true for a doubleheader but thought it was different for a continuation. They looked it up and there nothing that showed a difference. I ruled they couldn't pitch in both. Once we started not a problem.
